hello people
At last i find users of SCI samplers to hopefully share stuff with...
I met the P2002 a few months ago (heard about it but never quite heard
it before) as one half-working unit was given to a friend.
Man, that was a dive. The sound of that one was awesome, though
sporadically cut by PSU dysfunction's loud clicks.Diskett drive was
dead, also.I managed to find one disk drive and got it installed by a
tech guy here in Paris.I learnt then that one had to invert the order
of a few cable in the "nappe" connecting the drive , allowing thus to
use "easy to find disk drives".I should get more details about that
soon...
Unfortunately, having had repaired the thing, i got my lucky friend
involved in the Prophet and unwilling to let go of it, even for SOME
money. So i found another one for myself, fast and for about 180 euros
which was reasonable. That one doesn't have any problem, it is i that
has a problem with it: i still don't get most of the feats of
programming that beast.Still could not get the relationship of the
analog controls of Sound, Map and Preset. Clear on the paper but can't
understand what goes on when i'm at it.
Sometimes the best moments with a machine is when you don't really know
what you're doing , but that is discovering..I have had the 2002 for a
few months now....Have access to what i believe is the complete manual
for the 2000 in english that i can in most cases understand, it has
those midi sysex specs too, in case one is really courageous enough to
get a midi controller programmed.(by the way does someone.... )
This morning i decided i would get my old 486 PC laptop run that
AWAVE studio app that is knomn to support SAMPLE transfer as SDS.
The only way i could get it to receive samples is by checking
"automatically request next sample", meaning i had to upload all smples
to the PC. The Demo doesn't feat the send to sampler function.
I find 110 dollars a bit much for the sole purpose of sample transfer
for my P2000. All i really want to do is get my own short looped
waveforms down to the sampler,as i plan to use it mainly as a classic
hybrid synth as it can sound as DEEP and powerful as the PPG wave 2.3
when you get down to it.
Of course i made some drum kits ,sampling the Drumatix , rndom sounds
and such, but as far as looping goes ,i find it difficult to get it to
smooth those clicks.I am aware that it may be difficult to find an APP
to handle the loop feats of the 2000, but if any of you heard of or ...
maybe, only MAYBE could share one or even....PROGRAM ONE (dream on,
boy) well...
Aw right, let's shutup

Welcome to the group. I'm paticularly interested in the floppy drive "Fix" Even though mine is working there are others that are not so lucky. The inversion of the wires to the connector is interesting. I see that you may also in need of a manual. If you don't have a manual you can be lost when programming sounds on the P2K. It just so happens I have an extra original manual I'm willing to part with for about $10.00. Again any info you can provide on the floppy retro would be helpful to all in the group.

I'd like to know how to upgrade the memory to 1 meg, Wine and country won't even respond... maybe they are related to Emagic? Nicholas

holidays these days , i will try to put it down clearly when i reach
him again. He semt surprised to hear the drives were REALLY hard to
find, and didn't get it that the Wine country ones did not allow you to
format.
However, just to confirm a note at the P2K page, i have been able to
download samples to the prophet with a MAC running Alchemy3.0.
Then i understood the P2K manual quote about receiving only on the
SOUND number that the P2K is set to. What i did, is i got in the Sound
number mode, EXecute it, and then, even though ALCHEMY asks for the
Sample number it should be received on, the right one is always the one
defined by the prophet.
I wasn't able to upload smples to the Mac , maybe problems with the 12
bit reso or those packets of data that SCI had the short samples been
filled with when not reaching the regular size...
Also, i converted the smple rate to 32250 approx before download .
I didnot even try the 44khz rate
So, i now have a little collection of waveforms to work with.
I hope i can velocity crossfade 4 of them.
Thanks for the manual offer, is that the black hard cover filer type?
Where are you located?

Unfortunatly the manual has been sold. Sorry but it seems when I posted my inquiry, others in the group saw it too. There was a number of offers that came up for it since I posted my reply to you.
May I suggest that you contact Wine Country and purchase the original manual from them for $24.95 plus shipping. I do beleive that they will ship out of the US. The manual is quite extensive and would take too long to copy and send you.
As far as the disk drive goes. I seem to have figured out what you were talking about in the twist of the wires. I made a Sony MPF420-1 work in my Prophet. It seems to work better than the original drive so I'm keeping it in my P2K. This drive is equipped with a drive select jumper which has to be set to DS0. Then it will work. I also found that the floppy ribbon cable was in backwards (meaning the red stripe went to pin 34 instead of pin 1.) In a PC the select the DS0 by twisting a few wires to change the default DS1 to act as DS0. Any how I wish you the best of luck finding your way around the P2K.
