Prophet 2000 1MB questions

Prophet 2000 1MB questions

2010-11-23 by bertilmunde

Hi,
seems that I got a 1MB version when I thought I had bought a 512MB.
I read about the PRESET/EXECUTE step that would light a tiny dot at the rightmost lower corner in the display. It did on my P2k. Testing revealed that I could load a disk into the 'Dotted' area, whereas the factory presets would be accessible with no dot lit.
ROM Rev. 4.2.

Is there a MIDI implementation chart/manual extension available for ROM 4.2 that would sched some light on how to manage the additional space of 512k I just found in my P2k?

Thanks
Burt

Unfortunately, the manuals which are available for download
(and which I was able to find) do not cover ROM 4.2
and have no mention of the 1MB expansion.

The architecture of the 1MB seems to be really 512MB+512MB,
with no path between them at all.
If I could switch from one bank to the other via MIDI,
I'd already be happy.

>>The architecture of the 1MB seems to be really 512MB+512MB, with no path between them at all.<<

I'm replying from memory, but I used to be dead good at this... :-)

that's exactly how it works. to use the entire memory for one instrument patch, you should load the longest samples first, & work alternately like this:
sound 1
sound 16
sound 2
sound 15

& so on until you are putting the highest-pitched/shortest samples in sounds 8 & 9.

then make sure you are using a keyboard mode that has access to both sides. "LA" I think... or "ME".... either way, the keymap boundaries will make sure that only one sound is heard at any given time.

an alternative is to build an instrument in the "A" side using sound locations 1-8, & another in the "B" side using 9-16. then operate the machine in midi mode 3B with the two sides on different channels. this is about as multi-timbral as the 2000 gets, unless you work in mode 4 which puts each sound location/sample on its own midi channel.

this help any? btw, it's the same rules for the non-expanded machine.

duncan.

its been a while since i used mine on a regular basis , but i can't remmeber
, did program change change the samepl assigned to whatever part had a midi
channel?
you know , or was it each of the 8 set ups had external control under
program change?

i forget , i like that p2000 but programming has consumed large percent of
my time leaving no slot for p2000
