Saving sounds SYSEX to Mac G4 OSX (or OS 9) etc

2013-03-21 by pauldavidmichael

Greetings Prophet VS users.

Thanks for setting up this user group & thanks to those that have posted files info etc.

I just got my Prophet VS back fully repaired ( including the joystick) after it being completely out of action for 11 years, so Im naturally delighted to be playing & programming my favorite synth again.

I lost all my sounds though ( years of programming) which I expected.
I have an original sound (ROM) cartrige that came with the VS when I bought it 2nd hand in the 1990s, but it never worked unfortunately.
Anyone know if the cartrige needs backup batteries?

As per thread title, I want to backup my sounds now that Ive been programming again & have run out of space, but Im nervous of doing this via SYSEX , because I have not managed to get Vector Surgeon running on my Mac & naturally dont want to lose my sounds.

Can I just use 'SysEx Librarian' to backup & load Prophet VS patches?
I have used it for backing up & loading Korg Wavestation / Z1 & Roland JD800 files without any problems.

Does anyone have 'Wave Wrangler' or happen to know where it can be obtained from?

  Peace & Light Paul

Awesome to hear your VS has been resurrected! Mine could use some tlc, though it is operational, but I'm having trouble finding a tech I trust - did you go the WineCountry route?

As far as sysex is concerned, if your on a Mac, SysEx Librarian is in my experience the easiest and most relieble way of transferring data to and fro - Wave Wrangler I can';t help you with...

Have fun with you VS!

best,
Ady

Hi Ady,

       Thanks for the message.

I live in Ireland (mainly) & found a technician in Dublin.

Im guessing that probably wont be much help to you, but he is experienced with most of the Prophet Synths & I can recommend him if you are nearby eg. in the U.K. etc
He even repaired my broken joystick by drilling into it & putting a hard steel rod inside to reattach it with. Very impressive.
He said that the rest of the synth was straightforward & easy to repair.
Others had tried before to fix it but could not, so Im very pleased naturally.
I hope you get yours fixed. Good luck . Paul
