[sdiy] Good quality Alcool dispenser ?? (no alcool evaporation over time)

[sdiy] Good quality Alcool dispenser ?? (no alcool evaporation over time)

2026-01-28 by jpdesroc@oricom.ca

Does anybody use this type of alcool dispenser

with no inside evaporation over time ?

Last year I ordered around 4 of these dispensers
on Aliexpress for my alcool and Windex needs while cleaning things.

But the one who actually stores alcool (IPA)
get its inside drying up over time and the alcool level
goes down and exceeds the inside pulling pipe
making it unusable.
To keep the alcool from evaporating I need
to wrap a thin plastic over all the top ending.(!!)
A good brand would help me.

Thanks.

I use these but the ESD version from RS and they are properly sealed. The seal is on the lid itself so that small portion will evaporate and you need a few pumps to get it back up (this sounds soooo wrong ) the longest I’ve left the IPA on was for 3 weeks and when back it was still topped up.

I'm used to seeing these described as menda bottles. I'm sure that's a brand name but those might perform better than the AliExpress version.

These are dispensers, they are not storage containers. There's a difference.

Thats the reason. There are dedicated pharmacists bottles with secured
sealing caps for the storage. The cap can be replaced with a suitable
pipette cap.

(My parents where pharmacists and I spent two years at the university
studying chemistry - I didn't finish it, but I learned a lot about
bottles ;-) ).

I can't remember where I got it, but I use one from this company. Maybe the keywords here will help. Mine has very little evaporation. I only fill it about 25% or the way and it would take many months to evaporate.

Thanks for mentioning Menda! Their catalog (https://menda.descoindustries.com/) is really impressive. I've also had the same problems as Jean-Pierre with cheap pump bottles (poor seal, deformed neck/threading, tube split or cut poorly, pump broken on arrival), and they're one of those things that are so cheap I've never considered how much better a name brand would be. Kind of easy to forget these are a tool. Spending $25+ (4-5x more) for a better tool is not too expensive for the quality of life improvement from getting rid of those annoyances.

Good useful thread. As usual, Roman has the most practical advice. There are still plenty of reused jam jars full of mysterious liquids here. :)
