Vintage Synth Repair

Hi.
Is this the wide one with the row of square white buttons and the round
chrome cancel buttons on the right.  if so then it was great for its time
and still useful today.

Most rhythm units have a load of pots.  Some are for balancing the loudness
of the instruments.
Some of the instrument sounds are generated by what is called a damped
oscillator.  A bass drum oscillator will run for just a few cycles and decay
away.  If the pot is too far one way the drum wont work, if it's too far the
other way you will get a continuous low pitched hum.  generally, the pots
are best left alone unless you have a drawing showing what each one does.
