RE: [vintagesynthrepair] Roland Keyboard Weights Epoxy GlueTroubles

Call a Roland technician and have them notify Roland. Most likely Roland
will replace the keyboard, but only through a registered Roland tech.

Hello everyone :-)

I am new to vintage synth repair and I would love to get some advice.
I am presently repairing a Roland XP-80 keyboard and it seems the epoxy glue
that holds the keyboard weight underneath the keys has broken down and
dripped througout the keyboard mechanism. At the moment, I have been using
methylated spirits to remove it with some sucess (takes a long time to
remove - huge job!) I was wonderng if anyone else has come accross this
problem and what they used as a replacement glue? Is there a better way to
remove this gunk? I have tried everything but do not want to try acetone or
anything similar (because of plastic)

I have 76 individual keys to do and the whole plate mechanism :-(

Many thanks
Greg

greg, you aint alone in this problem with dripping key weight glue
depending on your environment Roland upon circumstance will
replace the entire keybed assy. am not sure if this model qualifies.
its a heat and humidity situation that causes the dredded drip.
otherwise do not know of any other cure than to replace every
bloody key from a new one from Roland that I aM SURE With
their new emproved gloo will not over a period of time repeat
this predicament.
i would also recommend contacting a roland servicer to see if
this problem qualifies as a warranty issue even if it is out of its
warranty period. regards, Russ
