you've already made your purchase - based on another message -- but i 
have a cheap low-tech fix which i discovered accidently.  i have several 
older synths with low-level lcd panels which either can't be adjust or 
are just plain dim (including my beloved k2000r).  since i'm already 
losing my vision and haven't had the inclination to attempt repairing 
all of them, i've taken to keeping a cheap lcd flashlight (either a 
small one i can hold in my mouth or one of those fancier ones with the 
head-strap) which works surprisingly well for seeing the lcd's at the 
distances that i need to.

i'm not trying to be a smart-a** here, it just works for me so i thought 
i'd pass it along.....
