Kustom 88

2004-12-21 by Matt Boyle

I am a semi proud owner of a kustom 88. About 6 months ago it stopped
working, not completely. If I hook it up to an amp (no internal speakers)
or headphone jack I can still hear the tremolo and the volume slider still
control still works (there is a bit of static but that was there before).
If I hold down the keys and turn it on I get sound and the notes sustain and
it cannot be controlled by the sustain pedal. After it is on no sound comes
from the keys. I have to wait for the power to drain before I turn it on or
I get no sound by the method previously stated. (ie. If I turn it on while
holding down keys turn it off and hit different keys and turn it back on
within about 10 seconds the previous notes are still sustaining.) What I am
pretty sure happened was that a capacitor or two went dead when a 12" jensen
speaker was placed on it for an extended period of time. I know that was
stupid but it was not entirely my fault. It seems as if not enough power is
getting to the keys to produce sound. Just the initial current of energy
can do that. Does anyone know any specific resistors, capacitors, etc that
I should check. There are an amazing amount of them there. I am not
expecting anyone to know much about this keyboard in particular but I am
sure that someone has had something similar happen to a like piano. I have
time if this will be a lengthy process.

Cheers,
Matt
