Vintage Synth Repair

Having attended some classes by Roland, they said your soldering irons,
wick, and solder, all had to be solder free, and not to mix lead solder
contacts with lead-free contacts. They showed us how to work with it and let
us try making some connections. It will take some getting used to.

Lead/tin solder is still available for repair and home use. Lead free is a
pain in the backside. My son works for a company that builds circuit board
by hand and automatically in reflow machines. They are having endless
problems. There has been so much hype written about the use of lead free
solder but lead/tin solder is still legally available and it is legal to use
it in repairs. There is an article in either 'Elektor' or 'Every day
Practical Electronics' about this, I will try to find it for you.
My Son tells me that his firm is instruction not use lead free solder on ANY
military contracts. Enough said???
