Vintage Synth Repair

Hello all, seems I've run into the same prbolem a few people have with these 
machines. First off the LCD is dead but not in the normal way, the light is 
still kicking strong behind it, just the text won't show up. Thought it was 
contrast at first but that didn't seem to help. (then again I could be doing 
it wrong as I have no manual anymore)

Also it appears two of the sounds just stopped producing a sound period, the 
pads are depressing without any problem but it doesn't appear to be sending 
out midi data either.

Before I go spend $50-$75 to have an audio tech repair this thing I wanted 
to know if anyone here might actually know what the problem is. I know very 
basic electronics (done some circuit bending and can solder) but that's 
about it, so I guess the other question is whether or not even if this can 
be fixed if it is out of my league.
