Novation KS4 problem

2012-10-14 by Samuel Adams

Hi,
I recently got a used Novation KS4 off eBay. When I received it, it worked fine but there was something loose inside. I took the synth apart and found some loose white plastic pieces about the size of rice kernels...Not sure where they came from but thinking from the keyboard didn't notice any thing wrong with the keyboard or signs of anything broken inside. During the disassembly I found I had to remove a center screw to separate the top and bottom in order to open the unit. I put everything back together except for the center screw as that was very difficult to put back in. When I turned the synth back on, it powered up fine and the display showed as it should and program buttons all worked however I found that the keyboard didn't work. I'm thinking that the center screw needs to be put back in and that maybe it connects the upper and lower parts to ground but am not sure if this is the problem or not or possibly the keyboard connectors came loose or I hooked them up incorrectly. Does anyone know if the center screw is needed? I can re-open the synth and put in a jumper wire but wanted to see if anyone else had come across this problem and if this is the solution.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Greg
