There's a battery in there (regular... nothing exotic), and of course check that to see about leakage, but I think it only holds memory for the buttons.
If it does start out working and then fail, I'd watch the power supply outputs to see what happens during those couple of minutes.
Was the storage dry, or are there possibly problems caused by high humidity?
As with all vintage electronics, replacing electrolytic and tantalum capacitors are the first things to consider.
