You can find Cakewalk 3.0 for windows that would work with the PC. Usually you can find them on Ebay for $20 or less. For the PC' in general Cakewalk is the most widely used. Their newer versions won't work correctly or with any speed on the type of computer you are describing.

Subject: [vintagesynthrepair] OT - Request of information on software midi sequencer

I would need some suggestion from anybody who has a larger experience
than I have.

I have a quite obsolete laptop PC (CPU 486, a 350 MB Hard Disk and 20
MB RAM), working with Win 3.1; I have found a MIDIATOR serial MIDI
interface (MS-124) with 1 midi in and 3 midi out. Now, I have to find
a MIDI sequencer to install on the PC.

Could you suggest me a software sequencer for:
- recording midi sequences from an external keyboard in real time
- editing midi sequences on PC
- printing single tracks on the stave
- managing SYSEX messages for my instruments (DX7, FB-01, JX3P)

I would also appreciate any information about web sites from which the
software could be downloaded.

I also have a PC with "modern" features (Win 2000, etc.): which
software midi sequencer could you suggest for this hardware?

Since the subject is OT and in order not to overload the mailing list,
please reply to my private e-mail address: maximmauro@...

Thank you!

Massimo.
