Hi, I bought a Wurli 200A without speaker in it. Does somebody tell where I can find new ones... Or if I could easily replace them by new. Two 4"x8" Oval (16 ohm) Are they the same as car-speakers ? All good idea are welcome, Best Regards Alex

Alex, I don't know where you're hailing from, but here in the US www.partsexpress.com has a wonderful selection of speakers of every type. I think that mostly car speakers are 4 ohms, but you may be able to get something. Anyway, good luck with your Wurli. ~JIM --- In vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com, "Alexandre" <alex.lannoote@f...> wrote: > Hi, > > I bought a Wurli 200A without speaker in it. ...i can't imagine any reason not to use an 8 ohm speaker, and add an 8 ohm resistor in series. deknow --- In vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com, "Alexandre" <alex.lannoote@f...> wrote: > I will check, but I think that 16 ohm speakers will be hard to find.... but > I will search on your URL. > > Thanks a lot for your kind assistance ;-) > > Alexandre > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: springpan <springpan@y...> > To: <vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com> > Sent: Saturday, March 22, 2003 7:13 PM > Subject: [vintagesynthrepair] Re: Wurlitzer 200A speaker...... > > > > Alex, > > I don't know where you're hailing from, but here in the US > > www.partsexpress.com has a wonderful selection of speakers of every > > type. Check with "Vintage Vibe". http://www.wurlitzerreeds.com/ or http://www.vintagevibe.com/ They appear to have new replacement speakers for the 200a http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? You could always try Morelock's Organ Service in Rienzi, Mississippi. They are the main leading supplier for all Wurlitzer parts. Check out their info on the www.mitatechs.com site under manufacturers/suppliers. Keith Niver Master Certified Wurlitzer Tech

all true, but in this case, you have an amp designed for a 16 ohm load...and i doubt any speaker you put in that thing today would be any less effecient than the original. deknow --- In vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com, "David" <packrat392003@y...> wrote: > --- In vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com, "deknoww" <deknow@n...> > wrote: > > ...i can't imagine any reason not to use an 8 ohm speaker, and add > an > > 8 ohm resistor in series. > > > > > > If you use an 8 ohm speaker in series with an 8 ohm resistor, you > will have a 16 ohm load, but you will be dissipating half the output > power in the resistor - so make sure it is large enough to handle > half the rated output of the amplifier.

So, what WOULD happen if you put an 8 ohm speaker in place of the 16 ohm speaker? Would the amp balk at this?

(if you have enough place > inside, that is...) ------------------- I discovered that installing an 8 ohm speaker instead of the 16 ohm speaker puts a greater load on the amplifier & it may not be able to provide enough wattage to drive it. So, you're right, it could short the amp - but it probably will just sound anemic. Tom
