Ensoniq ESQ-1 no sound

2005-04-19 by Keith Niver

I replaced the battery in this unit and no there is no sound. All the lights work. Do I have to reload all the sounds? I do not have any voice cartridges. Can anyone help?

After replacing the battery, you will have to reinitialize it.. If you dont know how, try
getting info from ensoniq's website if it is still around. If after searching for reinit
info and you still cant find it, email me and I'll find it somewhere else for you. Once
though the ESQ-1 is reinitialized, you will find that all banks will have the same sound/patch;
but at least you will know that the $#@#$$ thing works. As far as the voice cartridge goes,
good luck finding one, meanwhile I'll be on the lookout. Regards, Russ

Hi Keith. I feel like I left you a little high and dry on the reinit procedure on my last
post. Today is a brighter day, so here goes. While the ESQ-1 is powered on,
hold down the record button, then push the top left button of the LCD display.
When prompted, note the ROM or OS version number. Press "yes". If you are lucky
enough to have ROM ver 2.3 or higher the factory sounds will be loaded. If not
you will have a situation that I described in the last post. Good Luck, Russ
