repairing my Korg BX3

2006-04-06 by jim

Hi all !

I own an old Korg BX3 organ (the babe is near 30yrs old...) and have
some trouble with the digitasts switches of the lower kbd.
I project to change them but am unable to find the right model.those I
found were either too small or too large.
does someone know where to find the correct ones?
thank you for your help

jean-marie

ps: I live in France

Salut Jean-marie,

What's bad with your switches ? Mechanically broken or only bad
contacts ? I've you tried to clean them up with a contact cleaner
(such as Deoxit from Caig) ? IMUO, it may worth a try.

hello Franois!
thanks for your help. I think it's rather a mechanical break, I don't
hear anylonger the "typical "clic" of the switch...
I'll try to send a mail directly to Korg, maybe they'll find some behind
a desk ??

Salut Franois!

All Jean-Marie,

http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.293/.f

-----
Translation for others :

Hi,

If they don't have replacement switches, maybe they are a generic type
that can easily be found elsewhere.

Maybe the slack feeling is caused by dirt or missing lubrification. I
heard that DeoxIT is not very good for switches (It dries out
everything) and tuning capactiors in tuners. Maybe putting a certain
type of oil could fix your problem? By searching a bit, i found DeoxIT
FaderLube that could be a better choice in your case.
http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.293/.f
The problem is that we can't know if it's wear that can't be fixed.

Cheers,
Antoine

Hello Antoine!
thanks for your answer and other thanks for your efforts to write in
french! you're canadian I suppose?
I already tryed to find generic switches but the size is not the right
one to take place in the BX3 control panel.
I think I'll unsolder one and open it to look what's wrong inside...

Or Qubcois if you prefer.

I don't know in your case but it's often simpler to have the switch
attached to something. (To pull out the PCB and leave the switch on it)
