WTB: Prophet 5 rev 3.2 Power Supply

Re: [vintagesynthrepair] WTB: Prophet 5 rev 3.2 Power Supply

I have an original Rev. 3.3 transformer only.
We replaced it in a new unit by a toroidal transformer in the past.
So the original was left over.
If this would help, I´d look for it in stock.
I´m in germany ...

If the unit still works I'd love to buy it.

Do you have the harness cable which goes between it and the main
circuit as well ?

Also, any idea if the v3.3 powersupply if identical to the one of the
v3.2 ?

Re: [vintagesynthrepair] Re: WTB: Prophet 5 rev 3.2 Power Supply

2007-10-12 by PeWe

Hi !

I´ll look today for the transformer, - must be somewhere in a box here in my house.
My own Prophet is gone since the mid 90th,- so I can´t test the transformer in a working Prophet, - sorry.
I´m keyboardist, not tech, but I keep al working partsl in stock.
All I know is, - it was a new instrument it came from, - my own Prophet 5 Rev. 3.3.
The reason for the exchange was hum, - the Prophet was placed on a Hohner D6 Clavinet and/or on a Fender Rhodes, - so we got hum in the pickups - this w/ every gear which was placed on the Clav or the Rhodes ( not Prophet specific ! ).
A toroidal transformer minimized that hum prob caused by stacking on electromagnetic keyboards.

If I find the transformer here, it will work IMO, - or is there any reason why a transformer should not work only by waiting in a box ? Don´t know ...

I´m not sure about the cable, - we´ll see ...

I don´t believe the transformers itselfs were different in Rev.2 and Rev. 3 versions, but I can´t guarantee on the other side.
Maybe someone comes up w/ more info here in the groop.

cheers

PeWe

Re: [vintagesynthrepair] Re: WTB: Prophet 5 rev 3.2 Power Supply

Hi Gil !

I´ve found it so far, - I found 3 different transformers here but the one you need must be this:

Manufacturer:
Signal Transformer Co., Inc.
500 Bayviewwave
Inwood, NY 11696 USA

model:
DP-241-8-36
The coils are in white/cream plastic shelfs, taped w/ black adhesive tape.
This is housed in metalic isolated plates and these in a silver steel frame.
If you turn the transformer to the bottom you´ll read the word "SIGNAL" on the part w/ rounded corners of the plastic shelf and on the other side you´ll read 1...5, - the contacts.
Hurray, the cables are still there and soldered and shrinked to >>>

1 = black
2 = white
3 = not in use
4 = light brown / red ( 2 wires )
5 = light blue/pink ( 2 wires )

the top is:

10 = red
9 = not in use
8 = black
7 = not in use
6 = red

all THESE wires ( 10 ...6 ) are twisted.

On this opposite side of the plastic shelf you´ll read "Signal" too.

looks NOS, some contact fat on the contacts, that´s all.

If you have a Prophet w/ a damaged PSU, now you can compare ... :-)

all the best

Re: [vintagesynthrepair] Re: WTB: Prophet 5 rev 3.2 Power Supply

2007-10-14 by PeWe

Hi Gil !

I don´t understand your question here.

In my former posts I mentioned clearly, - I have the transformer only.
And yes, - it´s exactly the transformer on the pic you uploaded in the files section.
And it looks as good as this, - w/ all the cables connected ...

So, let me know you wanna buy it or not.
Are you in the US ?
I have to ship a Minimoog back panel to Louisiana from germany, - so I could do the shipping in one go to the post office which saves me time.

I also have the PCB schematics, the parts numbers as also the parts list and the complete service manual for the prophet.
There´s also advise how to trim the PSU after repair.
With this you can easily clone the PCB.
Have in mind you´ll also need a/ the heat sink which´s monted to the backpanel of the Prophet as also the voltage regulators which you´ll find i the parts list too.

Now I´m waiting for you decision.

good luck

PeWe
