Yamaha key contact strips for toy synths

I know this sounds ridiculous but does anyone know anything about a yamaha portasound pss-470? this is a little consumer level keyboard that had the "digital synthesizer" section sliders. I've got one I kept at my girlfriends for fun, one day feeling ambitious I opened it up to clean it all out, all I did was use tuner cleaner and removed the long white plastic contact strip to clean everything well. Since then I can't get 3/4 of the keys to sound at all. the rest sound ok, but in seemingly random places across the board. I just bought a replacement off ebay-for way too much- turns out this one does the same thing ( Damaged in shipping?). I replaced the contact strip once on a dx-21 and never got that to work perfectly either-the 2 C's above middle C always sound like they are contacting on one of the keys next to it. Am I missing something here? Is there a trick to placing the strip correctly? Or does anyone know if new mini contact strips can be found online?
