Korg M1 Batteries

Korg M1 Batteries

2002-04-13 by uwe_vogel

My Korg M1 is now 14 years old and still plays well on the first
internal batteries. Someone told me to replace them after 5, max. 10
years but I would lose all settings.

I just dont want it to break down in the middle of a gig....

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Yes:
If you can get a battery of the same voltage, connect it up using alligator clips.
This will keep the voltage in the circut while you replace the normal battery.

UV:

Don't know how the M1 is put together, but I've replaced batteries on
both my X-2 and 707 without a hitch or loss of info. BUT -- careful is
the word. Do this at YOUR own risk!

With the power cord removed, I disassembled the unit far enough to get
to the battery. Basically, I removed the bottom cover and left all
electrical connections intact. Then, making sure nothing was going to
short out or go to ground, I connected the cord, and powered up the
unit, just like I was going to use it. Then I << carefully >> changed
the battery with the power on. Powered down as usual, removed the cord,
put it together, and everything stayed the same. Whew!

The battery holds the memory when the unit is off or disconnected. The
normal power holds the info in these units when powered up, so nothing
was lost since there was always power available.

Now the X-2 and 707 use those small, round, lithium batteries in a
socket, so the change out was pretty quick and simple.

I know some older keyboards have the batteries soldered in. Don't know
if the M-1 is like that. Maybe someone more familiar with the M-1 can
add something here?

Just my 2 cents.

Bob

Ron:
I picked up a broken Odyssey a month ago. I mostly lurk on the synth stuff. I keep thinking about a PAIA too.
