mystery synth patch?

2010-12-29 by stevestill2001

hello all! i have been involved with various syths, (korgs, rolands, yamaha) over the past several years. I have searched in vain for a particuliar flute sound. one of the best examples is the opening notes from the Michael Bolton song "Can i touch you there" found on his Greatest Hits CD. the sound appears again around 3:00 and 3:36. the new age group Enigma also uses this sound on many cuts. I am hoping someone with vast experience with various synths and modules might advise as to where i can locate this patch? i currently play a korg pa1x pro and a yamaha 9000 pro. thanks in advance and Happy New Year to all!

I believe the sound you're referring to is a shakuhachi sample that was
originally found in the Emu Emulator II library. I think it was also found
in the Fairlight library as well. Peter Gabriel used it on "Sledgehammer" as
well. I think you can find it in the Emu Proteus rack mounts or in sample
form for various samplers. When the band I used to be in performed
"Sledgehammer" I found a close sample in a Roland U-220 sound module.

Hi,

on the versions I find on spotify that japanese flute is in the very beginning and in the middle. This page has a good version of it;

http://www.sweetwater.com/k2000/sounds.html

You could open it in Kontakt or a sample/sound converter and save it in your preferred format.

Cheers!
