Is there a forum with messages for this group?

2011-05-29 by Eddie Dickerson

HI,
Sometime ago I got a reply on my Hamond B3 through this group. I looked at my groups in yahoo and see I am not a member. I see it is an egroup so is there a forum or does one just send mail and ask questions here.
Here is one of my current problems. I have finally got my Hamond B3 making sound but it is still not good sound. I am pretty sure it is oiled well. How much does oil affect the loudness and tone in a tone wheel organ?
This is my issue at present with this B3. I turn on the start switch and the start motor is running BUT it does not engage and turn the tone generator. I can reach in side and press in on the shaft of the start motor and it will begin to turn the wheel. Then I can turn on the run and then off the start and it keeps turning. But the sound is not great and the volume is low. I have let this organ sit to much to long and would like to get it running good again.
I am about ; 70 miles from any one who would come to repair so am hoping to get it playing my self.
Is there some solanoid that clicks in and is it replaceable with out trying to replace the whole unit. I assume finding the whole unit may not be easy.
My email I assume shows but it is country_gentleman_tx@yahoo.com
THANKS

Hello:your low volume is probably in the preamp or the amp you are connecting it to,the start motor has a clutch on it that pushes the start gear into the main shaft that goes through the whole generator to the running motor,it is activated by the spinning of the start motor and it has to be able to move freely, you should oil it and move it back and forth by hand while the organ is off,if that does not work I shoot a little WD-40 on them and it frees them up,I work on these every day and it is a common problem, there are people on these forums that will tell you to never use WD-40 but I swear by it,and I never have a return call for a frozen generator,I use it on squeaky bushings in the generator,I've been using it on Hammonds for 30 years.but if you use the WD-40 make sure you use the Hammond oil afterwards,
