Hi folks! Somebody can help me please? I've got an E-Mu Vintage Keys expander without the crystal oscillator (quartz) Y1 mounted on it. Since it's impossibile to find a schematics for this instrument, somebody of you can tell me the frequency of that crystal? Thank you very much. Max

Max- Don't know specifically this model, but sometimes XTALS are engraved (stamped) on the top (thin) side, or printed on one of the larger sides (could be facing the PCB ). You might need magnification to read it. --- On Thu, 11/8/12, max_61_it <flickino@...> wrote:

If I understand well, he has NOT that component and wanted to know its value from somebody else. Daniel Forro

Speaking of the VK I have the original, can anyone burn me the ROMs to make it a VK plus as these are impossible to source? Cheers Keith

Thank you all friends for your replies! Unfortunately, the value of quartz is not printed on the PCB. I will try to contact the epr electronics like said jammie. A nice weekend to everyone! :-) Max --- In vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com, "max_61_it" <flickino@...> wrote:

Hello, I bought a Vintage Keys on eBay about a year ago and it had a Plus expansion board installed. However I found that most of the new instruments are just percussion samples from the 808 drum machine that was popular around 1990. As far as real and useful instruments go, there are a few piano and synth samples and an odd electric sitar sample. In effect, the Vintage Keys expansion board may have been something in 1993 but now it is nothing to get excited about. All the sounds could be found in any Korg, Yamaha, or Roland module from the late 1990s and later.

3.58Mhz was a very popular frequency, used in all color tvs. Try using that, or another crystal or oscillator, and measure the output frequency of 1 of your notes and then figure out the ratio and you'll get to the right frequency. Note there are more digits to the 3.58, so find them before calculating. Could look up the processor or freq gen chips, too, for a hint!, too! -Hugh --- In vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com, "max_61_it" <flickino@...> wrote:
