Hi All , through a moving house incident all my minimoog cct boards became landfill.
I,ve managed to buy two (vco and contour). Would like to purchase a filter board #4 and PSU/ noise board #3.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Korg Wavestation button repair and sysex challenges.

2013-06-05 by Jim Blair

Hey all,
I was recently given a “dead” Wavestation EX. Been fixing it up over the last little while, and it’s now working much better. However, a couple of the buttons under the display are not working. “Bank” and “Midi”. The bank button can be worked around, but the Midi button seems to contain some unique menu items.
I was hoping to simply use an editor, and just do some sysex dumps with something like Midi-OX. However, Midi OX doesn’t seem to communicate fully with the synth. It does send accurate midi note info to the Korg, but the sysex info does not get sent.
I’ve tried many different combinations in Midi OX (buffers, etc), but with no success. And the WS memory is NOT protected.
Does anyone out there have a Wavestation? Maybe we can compare procedures?
Or maybe you have some ideas for fixing the buttons?
Thanks,

Are you sure you send proper data on the same basic MIDI channel as your WS EX? Because you can't check or change your MIDI setting, maybe you have to change MIDI channel setting in SysEx data block you want to transmit. Many of SysEx data dumps I have from internet use different channels... I don't know MidiOX, maybe it's possible to experiment with some setting for pause between blocks... When you send your data to the instrument, do you see some indication of MIDI activity, or confirmation of receiving SysEx?

Buttons are maybe OK :-), your problem is dirty or oxidized microswitch. Best way would be to change it (or more of them). One month ago I have changed EL foil in display, it's not so easy to remove everything to have access to that board with switches, but possible. I could put everything back, no screw was left, and instrument works with nice backlight again.

Everything depends on your ability to repair electronics. Keep order and description of all screws, cables and connectors, make a picture after each small step, and get the same or similar microswitch.

Service manual can be found on the web, for example here:

Good luck!

I usually use ‘Cakewalk 9’ program as its very easy to use. Click VIEW then Sysx and load sysex data there, then you can send.
I used this program with many synth types Korg, Roland etc.. without any problems and no special advanced settings to do.
I find it more straightforward and useful then Midi-Ox.

The buttons, if not broken, only need switches to be replaced. They are of ‘long’ type more then normal 5mm height type.

Best of luck,
Noel

I think there is a program for Wavestation called:
Sound Quest Editor/librarian
you could edit parameters direct.
Probably you could find it on the net.

Best of luck,
