Kurzweil PC88 VGM Board Troubles
2014-03-16 by <nickap@...>
Hi all - I could use a little advice. I just picked up a VGM board from
eBay (advertised as "in good working condition") for my Kurzweil PC88; installed
it with no problems, and initially everything seemed fine - I spent some
time going through the new sound banks with at first no trouble. But
gradually I started hearing an occasional crackle/rumble - a static type
sound. I hoped this would clear up, but instead it got worse - by the
time I had been using the keyboard for about a half hour, the noise was
loud and pretty much constant. I tried swapping out cables etc., and the
problem was definitely the keyboard itself. Took out the VGM board, the
noise went away. Put it back in, noise came back. So it looks pretty
certain that this is a faulty board. My question is, is there anything
at all that I can do at this point, other than try to get my money back?
I'm assuming the answer will be "no", as I'm not sure there's much that
can be repaired on a board like this - but I figured I'd ask, at least.
Thanks - Nick
