Casio CZ1 keyboard issue, please help me

Casio CZ1 keyboard issue, please help me

2016-07-02 by roberflas@...

Hello,
I have a CZ1 , that was my first synthesizer , but one day I turn it on and if you touch any key , it sounds a very high note and hold on , if you play more keys it adds up but with high notes. If you play MIDI , all is correct, all notes , program change , etc.
Anyone have any idea what can happen ?.
Thank you

Your description is not quite exact... I think it's you who should
have an idea what happened :-) There's always some reason for such
behavior.

One of them, for example, can be that if it was not in use for longer
time period, maybe contacts are dirty or oxidized. I would reseat and
clean all connectors as a first simple step. Focus on keyboard cables
and connectors, I suppose there are some.

Sometimes after the long sleep it's good to leave the machine on for
longer time - three days and nights, but keep eye on it and switch off
again when you can't stay near it.

If it is working all right through MIDI, but not with the keyboard, it
probably means that the internal keyboard processor is out of order.
If I remember correctly there is a dedicated IC controlling the
keyboard.

Hi, thanks to all, for your reply,
Ok, the battery is for replace in this moment, but i do a reset at power on time, to obtain the factory settings.
On the other hand, I do all checks for contacts of the keys and continuity for traces in printed board.
Anyone tell me that this issue may be caused for one or some diodes of the key matrix.
I will do a test of all diodes, there is 122, two for each key.

Are you sure it’s not the internal battery(possibly a 2032 or other standard computer battery)???? I know when my CZ-101 did this the backup memory batteries were dead. The on board sounds in the CZ-101 were backed up by C batteries. That would be the first thing I would check. If you can’t change it yourself you’ll have to find a local tech to do it.

Cheers,

Does it occur with all sounds, even presets? Or only with Internal RAM sounds?

Have you performed System Initialization as described on the page 64 of Owner's Manual?

You can also try to send SysEx data to the instrument.

Possibly a dead internal memory battery? Likely on the main board inside. I’m not sure if it used the typical button cell ex. 2032 or not in the CZ-1…

Good Luck,
