Yamaha DX7 Function Button Issue

Yamaha DX7 Function Button Issue

2018-04-03 by adirondack_pc@...

I just refurbished my Yamaha DX7 and everything is working A-OK, except for one thing...

When I push the Function button and then select a number on the right, the number doesn't show up. So, if I press Function and then 5, when the number was 1, it stays 1.

I have done the internal tests and have passed. My voltage is 2.8 - 2.9 - 3.0 and it seems like someone updated the battery.

I moved the motherboard from another DX7 to my DX7 and before I did that, the same thing was happening. Is there a wire, jumper, whatchamacallit out of place?

The functions work as I go down the line, it's just that the number doesn't change. Patches and other things all change their numbers and as has been said, the internal diagnostic passed the SW test, all the way to 32. (I didn't know I had to do the buttons on the left.)

I have reset it and have been all over the Internet looking for something on this, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated! 1 small bugaboo and the darn thing would be as it was years ago.

Thanks for your time.

Tracy

No help is necessary. Your DX 7 is quite OK.

In function mode numbers are not changed, there’s always a number of patch selected before entering function mode.
In this mode you don’t select numbers, but functions. Not all buttons at right side have assigned some function in this mode.
Important is info on LCD display.

See page 16 in US Owner’s manual.

Are you saying the LED doesn't change or the LCD doesn't change? Or both? What version of OS are you using (Function+16+32)?

Hi -

I think I should read that. In fact, it's right behind me. I'll grab it. The functions all work fine. Woo hoo...

I couldn't remember if the numbers showed up because it's been 13+ years since I used it. After a motherboard change, Yippee!

Thanks... off to look.

I think that's normal. My DX does the same.
AFAIK the LED is for preset

 numbers only.
