Bit One / ESQ-1

hi, i've got questions about repairing two synths that i'd like to ask... first off, my esq-1. none of the buttons will make any changes in the synth any more. one day it just stopped allowing me to change patches or edit parameters. the synth still sends and recieves midi though. when i still had patches saved in it, i was able to access those sounds via my sequencer. i have tried reseating all the IC's and the cables but there was no change. also, i did a hard reset by doing the battery short trick. all this did was erase all my patches. to make things worse, the synth must be set to ignore sysex because i cant use any software editors with it or dump any patches back into it. any suggestions on what might be wrong with it and how i can fix it? on to my other synth problem...a crumar bit one. i reciently got swindeled on ebay when buying a bit one. the seller claimed it was in perfect working condition but its actually quite broken. im going to file all the reports i can (paypal, ebay, amex, etc.) to try to get at least some of my money back but in any case, it seems i am now the not so proud owner of a broken bit one. here are its problems: -the upper selection does not seem to be working at all. (the upper button does not light up, no patch is selected, no upper output.) -between 6-8 keys are either dead or the contact is sticking. -there might be a broken solder joint. however, i cant quite tell if it was ever attached or if its really broken. (i think its a broken connection though.) there may be more wrong with that i havent figured out yet but thats what i know so far. i am new to old analogs (except my akai ax 73, which has required no maintence) so i dont even know what all the internal trim pots do. of course i have neither a manual nor a schematic for it. i've attempted to make some adjustments though. i was able to get the volume back to a reasonable level and i've managed to get the tuning at least close. when i recieved it the volume was almost non existant and the tuning couldnt have possibly been further out. i dont know what the last owner was doing with it. the pitch bend doesnt bend the oscilators evenly either. is the patch memory in the bit one supposed to erase when the synth is turned off or do i just have a dead battery? if its the latter, where is it and what type do i need to replace it with? any help and/or advice you can offer on these synths would be greatly appreciated. thanks, -ugo
