Re: modular protection for live performance

2006-06-13 by Robair, Gino

I use a 12-space SKB case for my frac-based live rig, and I only use that setup for gigs I can drive to. For flying, I take my Doepfer portable suitcase, which I handle as a carryon bag. I miss using the frac setup sometimes when I’m traveling: to me it’s like having a Strat locally, but taking a Charvel on the road. Two different sounds, but both get the job done. (Having a Model 15 oscillator in each at least helps maintain a bit of similarity between the two systems.)

But I like the SKB I have: it’s really light considering the size and number of modules.
I’ve posted two live shots that sort of show the rig — theyR17;re from a concert at the Maybeck Recital Hall, Berkeley, CA ‘05 with Hamburg-based trumpeter Birgit Ulher. (We released a CD last year, Sputter, that features duets of analog synth/trumpet, with a little bowed percussion thrown in for good measure.)

Hello hello,

how many of you are using your (Frac) modulars in live performance? What kind of crazy
cases are peopole using out there? I plan on making a road worthy case for my stuff
eventually, but first need more modules. Until then it's the bulkyjunky SKB...
