Many fibreglass products (like boats) have the pigment covered by a hot coat and gel coat that is transparent.  A *lot* of buffing goes into those top layers.  So the color is under the surface, which gives a very nice look.

How about a panel of plexiglass, with a colored sticker on the backside with the labels?

My next door neighbour has a beautiful blue boat sitting in their front 
yard. The sucker is made of fiberglass. If you can put a finish like 
that on a fiberglass panel it will look better than most metal panels 
I've seen.

What's the big deal?
