Well... Last Saturday, I played a show with a friend at a small shop (McKeown's Books and Difficult Music in New Orleans). The 3 acts consisted of 1, two guitarists with various effects playing with "traditional" rhythm and harmony. 2, A completely electronic soundscape about rain created on 2 computers and theremin,. 3, (our thing) which was bass guitar w/ an Akai headrush looper/sampler (for the first improv) and Minimoog V'ger, Thingamagoop, and Little Boy Blue synthesizers. We just described it as "going ape-shit with synthesizers." My partner was amazed that 1, people were interested, 2, they actually came up to us after and asked questions about the gear, and 3, we got PAID. There is definitely an audience for weirdness (and Wiardness), especially in these times. I'd never have imagined being able to play outside my living room when I started back in 1980... As for a moniker, how about "sound"? You can get all Duchamp or Cage about it: "Since I put this frame around it, it is now music." Or even Mike Watt: "Punk is whatever we made it to be." Or me: "Here it is. If you want to categorize it, have fun. I've got more sounds to make." -andrew bunny
