OK it was the Dyslexia for sure. 

If you can't tell already, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. 

The oder is coming from one of the actual joystick mechanisms and the "right up-down" is not functioning but "side to side" is. I am hoping that if I replace the TL074CN or solder a new resistor somewhere all will be well again.

I am still totally heart broken. I mean dark self loathing funk and on my normally wonderful wedding anniversary to boot. 

Luckily, a call into Grant a post on Muffwiggler which caught Josh's attention means someone will help me and I will stop feeling sick.
