Switched On Konkuro

Switched On Konkuro

2004-06-27 by Gary Chang

Please find posted in the files section "Switched On Konkuro" - Bach 2
Part Invention #1, which I have entitled "the crow variation" (hmmm I
hear that they are mighty tasty this time of the year....)

All Wiard - all parts realtime. One pass.

Of, course, all due respect to Ms. Carlos. Her realization is art.
Mine is a demonstration. It took about an hour to make this recording
(most of which was spent looking for the authorization codes for the
MP3 encoder).

Johnm, it's not fantastic, but I'll bet that 36 hours is a lot less of
a wait to hear "Switched On Bach" on a Wiard than you imagined!

Yes. Paul Schreiber is now missing one designer. Getting him into
a pie with four and nineteen blackbirds was a bit of a struggle,
though.

It was robotic and lacking in timbral variation, but it did indeed
prove a point.

Much appreciated!

And you can't beat the title. :-)

What do you expect in just a few hours work?
If I'd have been Gary I'd have rather had the day off.

For what it is worth, I think that Paul's choosing of his relationship
with his son over his relationship with us and his synthesizer
business is a noble and commendable decision.

*Sigh*

Chris, Chris, Chris.

As so often happens with my posts, regardless of the forum, people
edit out the important (and usually complimentary) portion of what I
say, leaving only the negative observation, which others who haven't
read the original quote will glom onto like lamphrays, thus
perpetuating a certain perception of my net persona.

The part you left off of the quote below was:

"but it did indeed prove a point.

Much appreciated!"

I must learn to be more one-sided so people won't have anything to
chop off.

I don't think you should worry too much. Obviously people read your original
post and could make up their own minds.
But why put in the negative observation?
As a busy film composer myself, the last thing I'd want to do is spend the
weekend recording a piece to prove a point. Then for someone to make a
'negative observation' about it? I wasn't being too serious in my comments,
but I was sincerely blown away that Gary went to any effort at all to
demonstrate something to you and I was a little disappointed in your
grudging reply.
Meanwhile, I haven't seen you making any headway in your argument that a
Buchla System and melodic traditional music can't be spoken about in the
same sentence.

It's the ones who don't read the originals that I'm concerned about.

OK, maybe not actually *concerned.*

>But why put in the negative observation?<

I honestly wish more people would. You'll never hear me gushing
about something in a forum, then writing negative things about it in
private email. What you see is what you get. If something sucks, I
say it sucks. If something is good, I say it is good. I have many
faults but being false is not among them. And it's a sword that
cuts both ways. By way of example, I'll let you all in on a secret,
but don't tell anybody, OK? I continue to give high praise to
Guido's Thelonius Moog album, but the truth is that Guido and I are
currently not on good terms personally. The fact that we don't get
along right now has no bearing on his being a good musician/producer
and that his album is excellent.

But it wasn't grudging. I admitted that he proved his point. And
when I wrote that it was "much appreciated," I *meant* it. Just as I
meant the other stuff.

They may be spoken of together, but I'm still waiting for Switched-
On Buchla.

Still.

Long may you wait.
Meanwhile 'Buchla Goes to the Movies' might just be a possibility.
