Part of me knows better than to do this
(but that part lost the toss this time)

Superfluity has no place in the modular realm. There is music to be
made! (An aside: How come nobody with a Wiard does classical?)Is
synthesis about blinky lights and Riverdance graphics or about sound?
I do not deny that Wiard equipment is worth buying (though a tad
overpriced, in my opinion).>>

BULLSEYE!!!
I reckon if you stand there and pitch snowballs at the front porch
long enough, yer bound to finally get one smack-dab through the mail
slot!!!
Wiard is a message in a bottle that an isolated, precocious, laid-off
geek pitched into gray Lake Michigan in the hope of connecting to
others of his kind.(In a grudging bow to clarity, I'm interpreting
the "doobie" figuratively. Grant's design 'quirks' are designed to
prod the artist into using familiar-seeming features in unfamiliar
ways--that's the doobie behind the panel)
I'm embarrassed to go all touchy-feely/sensitive-guy on y'all but
when I look at my Wiard gadgets I inescapably see , among other
things, a distinct expression of loneliness. That doobie behind the
panel is an earnest invitation into the parlor*** of Grant's odd
little Milwaukee bachelor pad.
and here we are...
loners, geeks, and weirdos
My observation is that we don't always 'play nice' because we tend
not to be the types who go along to get along. We're irascible and we
sneer and snipe at one another but we all gathered here to do it;
passin' that doobie around that Prof. Richter taped behind the panel.
THESE discussions are one of Grant's principal design goals! To be
sure, he also strives for elegant circuit design and he'd love to
keep a little money at the end of the week but the Wiard synth is
also a very personal expression and I believe that Grant considers
our response to it a form of remuneration.
(for the record, despite my liberal adoption of the marijuana
analogy, i've always eschewed the real stuff because it makes me feel
too 'normal'.)
