not being an expert, i might speculate - if you had an old wa-wa pedal around with one of those toe switches kick in the effect, you could rig up a 9v battery pretty easily and adapt the pushbutton circuitry from the wiard 1209 joystick as detailed on the musicsynthesizer.com site to give you a foot switched gate output - ?
