Borg patch * percussive

Borg patch * percussive

2001-11-09 by GRobair@primediabusiness.com

Semisporadic, quasi-unpredictable percussive sounds
For solo Borg module

Right Saw -> Left 1v/Oct
Right Tri -> Left Key Fol
Left Square -> Left In
Left Tri -> Right In
Left Saw -> Right 1V/Oct

Both Mod pots at full CCW
Both filter types HP
Adjust Freq, Peak, and Osc 1/2 tuning to taste as you play the patch.

Notes: It's hard to resist using Wiard modules on their own as
selfsufficient synths. And due to the fact that I had only the Borg in
the studio, I thought I would investigate its "solo" possibilities. I
wasn't disappointed.

Looking forward to solo work on the Woggle.

Hi Gino,
    nice patch, I just tried it. ThanX for sharing it.
    It highlights what (IMHO) is an oft overlooked feature of the
300-series.
    that is,I've noticed that most of the Wiard 300 modules can be
patched as a single dynamic voice- standing alone. It doesn't require
a whole rack of 'em to make a little interesting audio chaos. (Grant
may revoke my mebership in the L.O.W. for pointing this out to
potential whole-system customers!) But I think that this admittedly
subtle point is overlooked when folks compare the 300-series to other
modulars.
   best,

PS: I believe we met at Birmingham improv fest in '96 or '97 - a good
time has had by all if memeory serves!

Re: Borg patch * percussive

Hi All,
    I got motivated by Gino Robair's standalone Borg Filter patch and
dug out my notes for another standalone borg patch that I made before
I got my borg in the rack.
     Please note:(the LEFT half of the module is 1, the RIGHT half is
2)
    It is quite dense and uses almost every jack. The critical knob
settings are OSC1 & OSC2 because they establish the ratios that
stagger the rhythms The FREQ1, FREQ2 settings establish the timbre of
the individual beats. And the PEAK1 & PEAK2 are a bit touchy too. I
think it sounds best when the peak knobs are just at the threshold of
oscillation. The overall sound of the patch (as described) is rhythmic
with pseudorandom interruptions. Due to the 'organic' (some say:
'wet') sound of the vactrols it is hard to avoid the PMCDFS
(post-multiple-chili-dog-fart-sound) syndrome. If this timbre class is
NOT desired, meticulous tweaking of the FREQ & PEAK knobs will be in
order.
   So with no further pedantic ado----

Patch cords:
1v/oct1 to mult
key fol1 to mult
mod1 to tri2
in1 to out2
tri1 to 1v/oct2
saw1 to mod2
sqr1 to in2
out1 to (amplifier)
key fol2 to sqr2
saw2 to mult

Switches:
Osc1 LOW
Osc2 LOW

Knobs: (positions given as clock hour-hand)
FREQ1 9:00
FREQ2 9:00
PEAK1 3:00
PEAK2 3:30
TYPE1 LP (7:00)
TYPE2 BP (12:00)
MOD1 5:00
MOD2 5:00
OSC1 2:00
OSC2 2:30

Have fun wiardo's!
