Why do people make such a big stink about specific guitars? :)

It could be down to vanity or the deluded belief that having the same
instrument as the artists you admire is going to allow you to capture some
of their magic. Or it could be down to the love of a specific instrument
that featured the filter in question. I'm not really interested in
emulating the sounds made by others, but I've always wanted an arp 2600
filter for my modular. I had a 2600 in my studio for a while and I just
loved the sound of the filter. I could get close to the sound with other
filters (particularly other transistor ladder types) but something was
always missing. Usually I spend ages agonising over whether each module I
add to my modular is going to add something to it that it didn't have before
or whether it's going to overlap too much with other ones I have*. But even
though there would be some overlap I'd still buy a decent copy of the 4012
if it was ever released.

* this is an added bonus of wiard products: they don't seem to overlap much
with other manufacturers.
