Wiard screw size

What size are the screws used to mount the modules into the rack frame?

Thanks,
TD

Hi TD,

You want #4-40 self tapping screws. I believe that Grant supplies 1/4" long screws, but I prefer 3/8" myself. Either one works just fine.

Kind regards,

Sam E.

I don't mean to be a git, but that sounds like the Frac screw description,
not the 300 series, which is I think what was being asked about (by the
reference to a rack frame, not a Frac rack). I don't have the answer for
the 300 series, though, sorry.

Whoops. You're right. That's the frac screw description. I should
have read the question more carefully. Oops.

I was able to find the right screws (after hitting several hardware
stores) at Radioshack.

Should anyone be short a few screws it's item 64-3011. They are round
head machine screws and fit fine in the 300 rack.

Just be careful to always hand start the screws and never force them.

The rack frames are aluminum and the screws are steel, so they can be crossthreaded.

Also, to completely assemble the rack, the #6-32 screws on the side need to be loosened
when the sixth module is installed. The rack sides are designed to "pinch" all the
faceplates together to eliminate gaps between modules.

I have made up a three page instruction for assembling the rack and modules which I will
post.

The rights side has a #6 lockwashed between the rack bar and the end. This is to keep the
rack bars from rotating AND acts as a shim. If you bought a used rack in pieces, this may
be missing an causing problems getting the modules in.

The racks and faceplates are CNC machined to +/- 0.005 inch, so it is all quite precise
and tight.
