Woggbug has arrived

Woggbug has arrived

2007-10-16 by r_a_quirk

The wogglebug has fought its way through the postal strike.

After playing with it last night through my fulltone tube tape echo I feel like I should be
posting nearly all the rest of my synth equipment on ebay. It has so much versatility, I'm
getting Public Enemy style squawks that spiral into a krell trombone section that morph into
mice chatter. The saturated tape delay creates lovely noise loops when the wogglebug takes
a momentary breather.

The build quality is excellent, to the same standard as my other 1200 series modules & dual
joystick, but I was surprised by how light the module is. Are the other 300 series ones the
same kind of weight? The portable system I've been trying to put together may have to take
a further detour into wiardville.

cheers

Richard

Hi Richard
Everyone remembers that first date with the wogglebug!
;'>
as to the weight...
My 'luggable' rig, dubbed the S.N.O.-
(the middle unit-seen at-)
http://launch.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/wiardgroup/photos/view/5df7?b=8
-only burdens my aging lumbar region with roughly 15kg (33 lbs). It's
an SKB case and has 4 'factory' 300's in it. (none are wogglebugs) The
heaviest components are the onboard linear PS and the 10-channel line
mixer (just barely visible in the top of the box) because it's housed
in a steel enclosure.
At any rate this rig (so far) allows an old man to tote around a very
substantial ration of analog firepower. If i were willing to
externalize the PS and the mixer, it would be cut the weight by 1/3.
But in my applications, every second i can shave off setup-time is
still more valuable than reduced weight.

I’m so jealous. I really want a Wogglebug! Out of interest how much did it cost including shipping and import tax? I’m based in the UK too.

Enjoy your 50’s sounds!

Regards
Simon

the first date has turned into an affair ;¬]. I'm recording every
minute I have it turned on in case I miss something. about four 20
minute recordings so far, just have to find the time to edit before I
start patching it into the rest of my modular.

The more I use it, the more it reminds me of the dr who sound effects
& background music from the early 70's done with the vcs3.

i remember talking to you about the sno a little while ago, I'd still
like to hear some recordings of that beast if you've got any. Are
you still enjoying the vector fade setup with the JAG? A sequantiser
is definitely on my short list for next module.

cheers

Shipping was $40.70 (Grant did you get my message on your voicemail
from yesterday?) and there was no duty. I've found that if modules
are sent from the US either one or a couple at a time by USPS there's
never any duty. Fedex & UPS of course have their own system of
charges. I'm still in argument with them over vat on a 1930's leica
lens, they charged VAT on the USD amount but put changed the USD sign
to UKP witout converting amount. Good thing I didn't buy in roubles.

my Wbugs STILL surprise me , after 5 years!
Granted, (no pun intended) the purely novel 'what was THAT!?!!!!'
artifacts have become much more occasional after nearly half a decade.
But those darn things still manage to cough up a new trick now and
again, even to my jaded ears.
So if you intend to make a comprehensive catalog right off the bat i
recommend that you stock up on tape (oops! sorry ...showing my
age...er....)i mean....HARD-Drives, of course!

as it is my live rig and we never seem to record gigs, i'm afraid i
still don't have anything on hand. When it's parked in the studio, i
use the modules, individually, all the time. But that's not really
representative.
i've recently completed a long arduous and overdue studio upgrade, so
i'll try to squirt a few minutes of improvs into an mp3 sometime soon.

> Are you still enjoying the vector fade setup with the JAG?

most definitely.
The Xfades are fast enough to play rhythmically and, when i slow down,
they make it easy to be ultra-subtle. The JAG may end-up being the
Wiard module that i wear-out first!
