synths for breakfast

2010-06-02 by doc

Hi Wiardos

i just wanted to call attention to this article:

http://emusician.com/interviews/feature/genius_bar/index7.html

compiled and edited by a Wiard list member.

Some of us have known these venerable characters for many moons and have had the incalculable benefit of their counsel before. But it was a great idea to put a fly on the wall at these conclaves before the population on the dais started thinning out. (...and when they weren't ONLY discussing how cheap we wanted them to make everything!)
;'>

There's some deeply thought provoking stuff here .... but that shouldn't surprise anyone considering the capacity of -this- think-tank.

Thanks for posting that, Doc. The opening page is here:
http://emusician.com/interviews/feature/genius_bar/index.html

Doing the interview was a real treat (and terrifying), but it didn't really hit me until afterwards what transpired: until then, I was too worried about my recorder crapping out and not having anything for the article.

Then I had that Wayne's World moment of "I'm not worthy."

Someone should be doing oral histories of each of these men -- Buchla, in particular. He never ceases to amaze me when we talk. Always gets right to the heart of what the instruments should offer. And he's extremely candid.

Anyway, I hope you folks enjoy the article.

Fw: [wiardgroup] synths for breakfast

2010-06-05 by Mark Griffiths

Doc, thanks for sharing, it was interesting. The whole technical/ artistic design vs the market's desire/readiness is a fascinating one and probably very frustrating for some of these people.

Did you see the Red Bull Academy one with Peter Zinovieff talking about geology and digital music?

regards, Mark
