As an owner of an MC505, an RM1X, MC80ex, MMT-8, MSQ-100, QY70 and
Cakewalk, I've been looking for a sequencer I can use live. This
might be it.

More tracks than the 505, deeper synth editing than the RM1X, more
real-time control than the MC80, faster to work with than the MMT-8,
more note capacity than the MSQ, more outs than the QY70 and more
portable than Cakewalk.

1. Latching the arpeggiator -- would have been great to have a
dedicated button to latch the arp. I keep the arp latched and when I
want to stop it, I go to the main preset screen, move the cursor to
the arp parameter and use the data knob to switch the arp off. Not
the most graceful real-time solution. Of course, I could unlatch the
arp by playing the arpeggiated notes again, but I don't always
remember which notes I'm arpeggiating.

2. Receive/transmit more CC#'s to edit NRPNs -- would be nice to use
CC#'s 98 and 99 to control my Electribe drum machine (I can hear the
chorus now: Why do you need the ER-1 when you've got the XL-7???!!!).

3. Send program changes -- This has been asked for by another user,
but I've got one more thing to add: "me too."

4. Editing via an events list -- also posted by another user, but "me
too."

5. Local off -- also posted by another user, but "yeah, what he said."

That's all I can think of for now. The more I use XL-7, the more I
love it. Patch cords are an unexpected bonus. Pads that send
aftertouch, for goodness' sake: Who would have thought of that? And
being able to slip into and out of grid mode while the sequence is
running sometimes makes me wet my pants. But I guess that's the price
of joy. Well, I'm off to sell all my other sequencers now and buy an
E5000 sampler so I can burn my own presets.
