RE: [xl7] Guitar to MIDI convertors

2003-09-18 by Stu

Hi,

I've got an Axon AX-100 which I think is great.. plays fine for me... It
glitches a bit, but that's coz my guitar has always been very harmonically
rich which seems to throw the convertor sometimes (old dull strings actually
work better...) Bends and slides play great - no problem there... I got it
set to 24 semitones pitchbend range which seems to work better for me than
12 semitones.

What convertor(s) did you try?

Regards,

Stu

Mainly because you have to set them up to work in one of two modes. One
mode just tracks the regular notes you play, and in most cases works just
fine. The other lets you also bend notes and sends out pitchbend messages,
but it's very fidgety and not as predicable as I would like.
Unfortunately, it's this second mode that interests me the most, as that's
just the way I play (lots of bends and slides). Even after spending a lot
of time setting up the convertor and tweaking it just so, I couldn't play
as naturally as I would like. Instead of opening up possibilities, it
seemed to be restricting me.

It's cool, don't get me wrong, but if I'm going to spend thatamount of
money, I want it to be as seemless as possible. The only option I haven't
tried yet, but have been recommended repeatedly, is the Parker MIDI Fly
guitar. I LOVE Parker guitars, but the MIDI Fly is just soooo expensive,
and I can't justify the cost yet.

Why aren't you happy with the guitar to midi convertors? I've always been
interested in getting one but never got around actually getting one...
