More specifically, you can use a DMM (digital multi meter) to test if the voltage is getting past the power supply. Leave the inside exposed, and plug it in, be very careful. Then do a continuity test and follow the electricity from the wall into your gear, then you should be able to find where it stops. You just hold one of the little metal pointers on a piece of wire you know is "hot," then put the other one on the other side of the power supply, capacitor, resistor, or what have you.
