Re: [xl7] EmulatorX

Does this work well in conjuntion with the xx-7s.

>>>Depends I guess. Assuming you're happy with external integration with
other samplers, I can't see it being any different. <<<

I bought an Xl-7 because it was cheap. Really I want something with
organic drums and guitars and basses, and I figure getting the emulatorX
and sampling my own wouldn't be much more expensive than getting new roms.

>>>Well, $150 for the Protean Drunm ROM will definitely get your sorted
with drum samples. As for sampling your own, yes it will be cheaper, but
I highly doubt it will be easier. Setting up your own realistically
responding instruments in ANY sampler takes time. You have to trim your
samples, set up velocity and key-fades, map velocity and pitchbend info,
etc etc etc. <<<

It poses as a sound card also, correct?

>>>No, the Emu Digital Audio Systems (1212, 1820, and 1820m) are all sound
cards, the emulator X software is seperate, though you do have to have one
of the above in order to run it. Packages bundling the Emu X software and
one of the soundcards do exist too. ,<<

Does it also come with recording software?

>>>Yes, either Cubasis or Cubase VST and Wavelab Lite depending on which
DAS system you get. <<<

Would the combination of the emulatorX and an Xl-7 rival an mpc.

>>>Really depends on what you want, that's a pretty broad question. Yes,
with Emu X you'll have sampling capabilities like the MPC series, but
those have that "All in one package" benefit that you'll never get with a
XL-7 and a PC running Emu X. However, you do get a kick ass synth in the
XL-7, something that the MPC series lacks. <<<

Anyway I asked him about the xl-7 emulatorx combo and he said just to get
an mpc. I don't know what to think. The type of music I want to make is
like rockish, mobyish, metalish, dredgish, dead can danceish. Something
like that. Really I just want to make some stuff to back up my voice,
because I just really like to sing.

>>>Are you planning on using this live, or just in the studio? In the
studio, I would vote for the Emu X combo, it'll be more flexible
ultimately. If you want to go live, that becomes harder to answer. You'd
need to bring your whole PC with you to go live with Emu X, and you can't
use a Laptop (unless you get a PCI expansion) as to run Emu X, you need to
have one of the DAS system installed. <<<
