If you're not planning on using it live, and you DO plan on also using a
computer for making music, then I think the 1212 card with Emu X is a
really good buy. The new issue of Sound On Sound magazine has a good
review of it too, if you need more info.

So far it looks like the Emu X is pretty much identical to the synth
engine in the Command Stations, so at least things will look familar as
you jump between the two. And the new cards are supposed to sound really
sweet too.

I was not planning on using it live. I was not planning on live
anything for a long time. The emulatorx bundled with the 1212 and I
don't know what else, is only $230 new on ebay. It says is comes
with 2gb of sounds, and I thought for $80 more than a rom I could
get those sounds plus asmpling capability, something that will never
run out of sounds, recording, and a soundcard, all of which I will
need eventually, so I might as well go with that.
