I'd love to be proven wrong, but there's no way that the external
controller can know what the controller values of the XL-7 are.  When
you switch presets, the initial controller values get loaded but *do
not get sent externally*.  If you had a box that could query the XL-7
via custom sysex, you might be able to do it, but other than that, no
dice.
