His machine is probably in omni mode instead of multimode. For newly acquired used units, I highly recommend realoding the default factory multisetup (the last one, #63) or even better, doing a "Init Data except Seq" in the diagnostics to reset ALL the user presets. -Aaron PS. as a side note, it's nearly impossible to have a "partially" broken OS. It should either work perfectly, or not at all. This is why reinstalling the same OS shouldn't make a difference.
