just to confirm that your NOT spraying the contact cleaning on / down the side of the shaft!! All this will do is de-greese the encoder and it will feel nasty to use after. Your just spraying the base of the encoder where the electrical contacts are. Theres a small opening where you can get it in there, near where the 3 legs come out of the part. As for wiggling the shaft.. the cleaner will spread over the surface by itself. No need to wiggle the shaft! Just by the action of using the encoder normally after will have the right effect.(if the cleaning works!)
