Check out Seq303 in terms of sequencers, if what you're looking for is something to write sequences on to send TO the XL7....I use it quite often for such, I don't even import the midi into the XL7, I just play it right in from Seq303. It's strictly an analog style sequencer though, not sure if you were referring to a multi-track program or something.
