more new user stuff

2006-03-22 by ferrograph632

I was going to ask the list what everyone does with the multisetups,
since most (all?) of this info is stored with the pattern anyway. the
manual is a bit short on emphasis of this point, but saving a pattern
stores all the global effects settings, mix settings & so on.... in
fact, all the stuff you use the multisetup for on a regular proteus
box with no sequencer.
I was going to ask.... but then I sort of answered my own question. I
use the multisetup to establish a base set of presets, effects
settings & mix for a new pattern.
thus, I have multisetups for pieces that require parts to be routed to
subs, or for which I have a particular effects setup in mind, or a
selection of presets that are close to what I think I need for the job
in hand. an example might be the creation of a drum part, with the
part being built up using several channels (to ease editing, say) &
then later combined onto a single track &/or channel.
then I can save the edited pattern & forget about which multisetup it
originally used.

I discovered a neat trick with the arpeggiators... I set the arpeg up
with the latch enabled, & to play a pattern. then I put a single,
non-sustained, note event at the start of a track. this switches the
arpeg on.... but when the pattern loops around & the note plays again,
it switches the arpeg off again. & so on. the arpeg comes & goes on
the odd-numbered iterations of the pattern. unless you mute the track,
of course....

duncan.
