1. The idea of looping midi out to midi in is so you can record note 
and controller data from a riff or arp into a pattern. Once its in a 
pattern, you can disconnect the midi loop and edit the arp or riff 
now stored in the pattern.

2. I am not sure I follow what you want to do. Could you explain what 
you are trying to do when you say:
 (a) to have the bts/riffs work in arps mode, and
 (b) sequencing the beats loops . . . while pressing the pads.
